Converting egi to carb...questions/benefits?
I'm sure this has been discussed before but i've never seen it and not sure how to word a search... but anyway, i want to know the benefits of swapping egi to carb...i'm going to be supercharging my car this is the main reason why i want to do this and i hear carb is a good idea...but why? also what all parts do i need to do this and what's involved in doing it. Thanks for your time

12 months ago I would have agreed. Not anymore. Fuel injection for the DIY-er has come down in price so much that there is really no need to go to carbs, unless you don't have access to a laptop for tuning.

come down in price? hmmm. and what is this product you speak of. good stand alones still run atleast a grand. he can get a good holley off of partstrader or ebay and and a manifold for less than 600 and get easy tuning.

Megasquirt. $120 you build it yourself. If you want to pay someone to build it comes in at around $220.
I'm currently looming up my series 2 to run off an old 'vette ECU which cost me $40. They're a little more work to program, but at that price who cares, plus the feature set is beyond most of the aftermarket.

Personally, I prefer the simplicity afforded by carburetion as there is no engine computer, sensors, or other electronic crap to deal with. Remember that the Dell'orto, Holley, and Weber setups were touted by Racing Beat as a performance UPGRADE over the stock EFI setup.

well they would, as they have something to sell.
I have no issue with carbs and used to run my 13B on them, but EFI is now readily and cheaply available for those who are happy with it. However, as you know if you have tuned a weber PROPERLY, simple it ain't.
This thread is about fuelling for a S/C upgrade, and I still say EFI is the way to do this on an EGI motor.

I wouldn't trade my Weber for any of that EGI ****. It's so nice to see a motor devoid of that stuff. It's like looking at a lawn mower engine, so simple and such a clean engine bay. you don't have to worry about stupid sensors that will leave you broken down in the middle of no where all because the sensor went bad.

However to those who are not well versed in the art of weber carb tuning it is not easy to get it spot on. The number of good tuners is getting less and less and many who do it at home are not willing to invest in the $100 worth of venturis and jets to get it right. Not to mention the weeks of adjusting. As a result most weber carb installs are wrong.
Saying that EGI is 'crap' or '****' is either intended just for shock value or an expression of luddishness. Either way it doesn't help the poster of the original question.

what could be simpler ?
than efi ?
a system based on relative pressures and bernoulli's principle ?
OR an injection sytem based on small spray nozzles that are actuated by electricity ?
I know which system I would pick if I had to build it from scratch
Mike
P.S Bill, got your E-mail about the turbo kit ... thanks
