Control arm re-placement

I am about to re-place the control arm with new ones and in searching archives many have stated that to remove the control arm just cut the bolt (one with bushing and metal sleeve) That sounds like the easist way if I cant get it out any other way. My question is, what size is the bolt so I can buy it and be ready to install the new one. Is it a dealer part?

I'd try it first. I have heard stories of people not being able to get it out, but mine came straight out...no problem. Can't help you with the size...sorry.

You're talking about the front suspension arm or am I confused?

yes, try to get it out first... if you don't have any, much rust on the car you should have no issue. What happens is that the two metals rust together bonding them thus making it impossible to get out. The FB's I've had with little to no rust the bolts came out with light tapping. The SA I had that was a bucket the bolts came out... with a 5lbs hammer.

I'd say it's less common to have the problem than to not have the problem... from the five 1st gens I've had.

Yes it is the front suspension. I will try but would still like to have the bolts ready in case as I am borrowing some tools and will have limited time. I have a 81.

mine is an 82 model. I replaced both arms within the last 3 months. the bolts just slid out with a slight tap and I managed to press them back in by hand. Like the previous posters say, you shouldn't have a problem. having to cut the bolts off is the exeption rather than the rule
