I want to get my interior clean and nice, I'll change the shift boot for rotorhead.ca's shift boot. I also planned on changing the shifter. So, it would be appreciated to know your thoughts.

Spray paint will work fine. Just make sure you rough it up a little and prime it first. Oh yea, be sure to clean it really well with denatured alcohol or some similar product.

Use vinyl spray paint or bumper paint, it sticks a bit better.

ive done a couple of these over the years, the best stuff ive used is acrilyc auto paint.
use a primer and prep it as you would a car panel. It dosent take long and is heard wearing

i rused the prep a little on that last one, but because it is acrilyc it is easy to touch up or redo if you need too.

that blue one looks cool adsy01. Whats that **** for where teh cig lighter goes? The kind of paint isn't *that* important, just be sure to prep it really good. If you don't then the paint will only stick in some spots and look really bad (ask me how i know )

Adsy01 : Damn your console looks nice.. I want to make the same think, maybe the same colour! Do you have other pics of your interior? If you remember, i would like to know what colour exactly your paint was.. And.. I like those gauges too, i would like to know where could i get 3 gauges to put the same way that you put yours.

Thanks!

Your talking a 83 right? just pull the shifter surround off, it just pulls out. There are 2 screws at the bottom of the surround that are revealed by doing this. Then take the ash tray out, 2 more screws behind there. pull the a/c heat ***** off and remove the 2 screws at the top going upwards into the dash. Then just SLOWLY pull it out, the middle will be somewhat stuck so just wiggle it around till it comes free. Then just unplug all the wires going to the clock and rear defroster switch etc.

I had mine painted by the body shop (body colour plus clearcoat) - they sprayed it on with their gizmos

i tried to spray it black, to look like Manntis's yet, it turned to bubbles.......... and I kinda ruined it... and the vents broke.....

Anyways... the gloss black, turned to charcoal black....

Oh well.... I will just get someone with those "gizmos" to paint it.... when I get my fender painted..... (1984 GS/GSL wannave aka Grunt)

My 80 I primerd, and painted with Wally world .99 spray paint, i painted it silver, and the radio thing came out GREAT, imo, but the shifter I got carried away, adn made it wrinkle with one of the 20 coats I put on it, trying to make it look right... and I still have to dremel stuff..... so.. it wont last long either So, I will use new chrome wannabe, matallic finish paint next time, since I heard it doesnts mess up as easy... I hope it works

Thanx, Laterz, Andrew

Andrew, you didn't prep it right if it bubbled. You have to take some ~120 grit sand paper, rough it up a bit, then clean it really well with denatured alcohol then prime (3 coats) then paint (3 coats) the clear coat it (3 coats, gee what a surprise)
hey WanKeL FD RX-7 did my post about removing the stereo surround make sense?

Where can i find some gauges, for a good price, the little gauges that can fit into my console like on the Adsy01's blue interior?

That stock interior you posted looks familiar, Wankel FD RX-7. Except mine has a stereo, and an 84 shift boot and ****. Much better looking IMO. Im surprised no one ever noticed it before with all the sharp eyes we have around here .

Nice car TJ, I have ordered my new sparco Globe-X shift ****, and a nice set of Sparco "grip" pedals to replace my stock ones. And my center console will be painted in metallic silver, so this is going to fit perfectly with the car, i think. I began to remove the center panel, i started to remove the plate where the shifter is and i have pull out the 2 screws, i didn't had time to remove all of the console.
