Console hinge replacement

My console hinge is broken and I have a replacement. I got the hinge cover off. I can't figure out how to separate the rubbery leather cover from the black plastic that connects to the hinge. I tried prying on the little black plugs but it seems like they were going to rip before coming off. Any ideas?

Drill them out and then replace with rivets.

From memory the OEM fastener are this type:

To unclip them, you have to lever up the centre pin, not the outside section. This will retract the clip at the back and allow you to pull the entire fastener out.
