cone filter, no cats - block off air pump?

Hey guys, I searched and could not find the pic I was looking for, but I know that some of you have put a small cone-filter type looking thing on the hose that goes into the air pump when you remove the stock box and use a cone filter. I went to my local auto store, and they didn't have anything even remotely similar to that. I was wondering if any of you have a part number, or could tell me where you got it from?

also, I do not want to be sucking things into my air pump, so will I be hurting anything by just blocking it off (duct tape around the opening of the hose)...? I don't have any cats, and I have wired open my aux ports (gsl-se) so is there any thing wrong with just taping it up? I don't want to damage the air pump. soon I will get a double pully from manntis and delete the air pump but due to time constraints, can't do that yet. So is just taping it up fine if none of you guys can get me the specific info on where to get the "little cone filter"?

thanks
~Andrew

When I was buying new headlights, I thought I had seen them at Autozone. I don't think blocking the inlet tube is the way to go. It may cause the air pump to overheat and the possibility of sucking that duct tape into your pump.

What you want is normally called an oil breather filter. At Autozone it will be in the aisle with the sparkplug wire looms, carb spacers, braided fuel lines, etc in the black cardboard backed packages. It will look like a wee-bitty airfilter with a rubber fitting and a hose clamp on it.

Yeah if you don't care about emissions, ditch the whole thing and clean up the engine a little bit and save some weight.

Hey all, this is a bit of a follow up, the part that fits perfectly looks more like a frisbee shape, or flying saucer shape, with a hole on each end, and a filter in the middle. I bought a Purolator breather filter, item number "B23142" from advance auto parts.

Sweet, glad you found the right part. Very good of you to post a followup with the solution too.

Now anyone else looking for one can be rudely told to search for the answer.

why waste the money on a filter for the thing. all it is doing is pumping air to nothing. well i thought it was a waste of money because i yanked the thing off in two weeks after converting to a cone filter. ditch that air pump!!

I certainly will "yank it off" once I get the dual pully and new belts. But that whole process takes time, so I figured in the meantime, I don't want to be sucking in anything of a diamater of 1" into the air pump... I know all it is doing is robbing me of some hp, but the $3 that might save me from needing a new air pump come emissions time is a very worthwile purchase

oh, emissions . all i have to pass is a visual inspection so i just cut the belt and un hooked the air pump. i had just got the rb exhaust and was so excited i just took the air pump off, blocked it and didn't even put a dual pully on it and the belts have never slipped off. well if anyone needs an air pump, i got one....real cheap that and many other emissions equipment

I haven't had any troubles with just 2 belts. I've had little->no slippage as of yet.
