Question compression test basics

I have and 84 GSL with the engine from and 83 in it. I made the swap over a year ago. The car just doesn't run properly! Starts very hard, uneven idle and hesitates. I have removed the "bird's nest", put in a carb from a different FB that ran fine. New plugs, wires, distributor and ignitors. Fuel pump and regulator. I did the ATF etc... I figure it's time to do a compression check. I have a Craftsman Presure test kit so I would imagine it not the special one for Rotaries. What numbers should I be looking for as far as PSI? Is there a special orders as to which plug I should remove and test first?
Thanks,
Bob

your not going to be able to get an accurate compression reading with that guage. You can get an idea, by removing the bottom valve. The guage should bounce evenly 3 times. Same for the other rotor, if you have one or two that do not bounce, you have seal problems.
