coil clicking

recently my car has been having a wierd/ruff idle. so today i started (its been having hard starts too, especially after i drive and let it sit for a while) the car and noticed the battery had a bunch of white powderery stuff on it? i go to clean some of that stuff off and i hear what sounds like arching(clicking) coming from the trailing coil. is this normal? the clicking i mean or do you think it ha something to do with the hard starts and ruff idle. ive checked almost all other possiblitys like fuel filter, vac leaks but still have the ruff idle

If you are refeering to a clicking/arcing sounding when it is running that there may be a crack on the tower of the coil or a bad coil wire.

If your coil is arcing out it will cause a misfire which will cause rough idle, rough running, etc....

That's corrosion. Take the cables off of the post on the batter. Get some hot water and pour over the cables to remove the corrosion. Take a battery post cleaner and clean the posts on the battery and inside the terminals.

If the corrosion is on the cable portion where the covering is than you need to replace the battery cables.
