**** with a gsl-se
theres this guy at my school with a gsl-se that likes to talk ****. he always says that my car is the "****" model because its a gs. he has a hollowed cat and a big *** muffler. really, he doesnt know what he has. i dont think he fully understands the rotary thing. just knows it doesnt have pistons. ive seen him ride down the street in 2/3 gear and brag about how "quiet it was" before the stuff. i know he just redlines the crap out of that car. anyways.. question. do you think my gs (85) with racing beat header, and freeflow exhaust, limited slip, short shifter(i know not a go-fast mod) possibly beat his? just wondering becasue i would love to pull on him just to shut him up

dman richmond is to far of a drive. or else i would come by and take a shot at him. i out ran an se just the other day. i really want to go to the strip and get some new times. but man it is 70% driver and 30% car. I beat lots of cars i should not just because they try and spin tires and look cool and i just run off and win.

ive talked to him before when he first got it (way before i got mine, but i was into the rotary thing and he wasnt) and it has 103k on it, im sure now its near 110k. but for what its worth, my engine bay and interior are alot cleaner than his. plus, hes got 2 12's in the rear and im sure its a good 70-100lbs. with the speaker box. honestly, i wish i had a gsl-se, but i like the whole 12a thing too, it just seems harder to get as quick as a efi car. but you guys think i have a chance. i mean, ill definately race him even if i loose, its not that big of a deal.

I have raced and blowen the **** out of 3 Se's. The only reason is because I can drive my car. there cars were much faster than mine. If you can drive better than him than you can beat him!
Its bad enough that all those Honda boys are ****** and think there fast, but I really cant stand it when someone ownes a rex and is a *****. With the rotary comes humility, especially the 1st gens. Whoop His *** Sea Bass!!

i agree with passion. if you're gonna stack the cars up side by side ... you'd need to rework the intake some. not necessarily aftermarket, but you'd have to mod the Nikki.
however, from what it sounds like ... he's a *****, so if you feel that your skill/technique (whatever) is equal or better than his, then go for it!

Throwing in my 2 cents re; the technical portion of the comparison, his engine is developing more horsepower than yours even if it's bone stock, but more importantly, he will develop more torque at lower RPM than you, combined with the 4.09 rear end, and he will likely pull you in a standing start.
As some others have said, you have a chance if he doesn't know how to launch, if he can't shift, or if he has clogged injectors or inop '6' ports - in these cases, your driving style may make up some of the difference in performance between these 2 cars.
I make the comparison based on a 12a 80LS and my 13B-EFI 84SE. The SE is much better off the line due to the torque curve, but it's not as low as Mazda states it is. The 13B EFI still requires RPM to make torque, and the true torque peak is still at about 5800-6000 depending on air temp, plugs, etc. That means at lower engine revs, he's even closer to your torque in a 12a than higher up. This is where shifting comes in - if he wraps higher than 5800 or so, he's topping out of his torque band, and you're just getting into it with the 12A.
Knowing what your car is capable of is one step toward becoming a better driver with it. It's not all about racing, or drag launching, or top speed - it's about a well balanced car and driver that work well together.
If this dolt doesn't know what a 13b is capable of, he might as well be driving a 12a when it comes to racing, IMO.

Your subject line said it
His car is just an extension of his ego, and he's obviously a **** who wants to feel superior, most likely to compensate for his low self esteem.
Ever read the Dr. Seus story about the Sneaches?
I hear this crap about motorcycles too. I ride a Suzuki Katana. Its sneered at by Harley riders for being rice. Its also sneered at by the Squids becasue it isn't the latest and greatest GSXR1YZalphabet go faster machine. But ****, I've got 74 horse at the rear wheel (dynoed), and after 20 years of riding all kinds of bikes I guarentee you that I can outride all those squids any day on a twisty road. Its plenty fast enough for me and I like it, and that's all that counts in my book.
My advice would be to forget about that ****....bad karma.

The first thing I did when running the stock carb was to wire the secondaries up to work manually. But the best compliment to the header IS an aftermarket intake and carb. I run RB's Holley kit. I've used a Mikuni(spelling) before and I can't really see any difference in the two at WOT, but the Holley is alittle better on gas. Hell, I could come up and blow his **** away, that would REALLY **** his world up.

You must have raced a 12A.

FWIW,
When I had a healthy 12A with headers and exhaust, I used to walk on SE's.
Now, when the SE's were healthy and had similar mods, they would walk me.
The Driver and launch does make a huge difference.
I recently drove a stock port 12A with a Dellorto, headers, directfire, electric fan, and all the bolt ons.
It would destroy my stock SE if I was foolish enough to race it. We're good friends, so I will return the favor of not embarrassing him with my car in the near future.

Airflow is my life
Homemade cold air induction and mechanical secondaries. Maybe $10 total? Set your tire pressures for whatever is good for drag racing (I'm a clueless SOLO I/SOLO II guy) And ditch any excess weight the day you challenge him, but I dont condone street racing.
