clutch pedal fell to the floor

got in the 7 this morning and the clutch was completely lifeless..
popped the hood, the master cylinder was dry..refilled it and pumped the pressure back up..went to work..got in her after work and once again dead clutch..and yes a bit of a puddle under her..im assuming this isn't a case of a bad master cylinder? and more along the lines of a leaking hydraulic line?
my question is im without a mazda shop manual so where should I begin poking around for the lines? I realize that may sound silly, just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation and knows whats up I notice the lines after the cylinder disappear into the firewall..so im expecting some fun here..sigh

LOL, I just noticed yesterday that my clutch pedal is getting awful close to the floor all of a sudden. No fluid leaking anywhere, so I'm betting its the master cylinder as well. Oh well....

indeed, I had thought there was more to the hydraulic clutch assembly, looks fairly straight forward; of course this doesn't mean it will be easy
lol im looking forward to this ritual for a week...the idea of convincing my car that it needs to get me to work

Rotary weasel,

best bet is to do both the master and the slave at the same time, if one is gone the other is useually on its way, and what happens is you fix one, and the other goes out 2~3 months later, big deal you say, but since the contaminents are in the oil, they tend to damage that brand new part you just put on a couple of months earlier, shortening its service life drastically.

thats why mechanics (I am not talking dealers or stealerships) prefer to do all of your brakes at once, same thing with the clutch.

To add to what Kenn said, replace the soft clutch line also. Then your done with the clutch hydraulics for years to come.

Thanks guys,

I will be taking it to a clutch/trans shop here, that I believe I can trust
I will tell them to replace the items you listed, and being slightly paranoid..will make sure they do it
im still settling into my new place and don't have all my tools with me as of yet..and im kinda lazy as of late..blame it on the cold weather..summer I work on my car(s) all the time

like ken said, ive learned when ur replacing the master and or slave, do them both in 1 shot, i just replaced the slave yesterday, bled the line and put pressure back in and my master blew out and leaked all inside my car at the clutch. 3rd time this has happened, i've learned to allways replace both. =\

my didnt last but 2000 miles .. yuck.. but advanced auto parts gave me a lifetime warrenty on these new ones!

cmc has a leak of course.. mine leaked from a seal inside the cmc into my inner firewall. picked one up from victoria british. vb also sells the lines and slave also. i installed just the master cylinder kuz i pumped the slave and it still was working and blew through the lines and had no problems and the clutch felt like new again and hasnt had any problems yet

I did mine myself its an easy fix they just bolt on, bleed it like a brake caliper and its good to go, satisfying and cheaper than paying someone. It is seriously easy though.

Be sure to replace that flexi-hose. Sometimes that's all that's wrong.

LOL I had this just happen to my truck after I changed the clutch. I had to also replace the master and slave because I couldn't get it to bleed and the reservoir was all gumed up grrrrr, curse of the Stead clutch, LOL.

the Stead clutch indeed... considering how long my 7 has had this problem and up til now it was never a bother except filling the MC every 2 weeks or so..and even now with some judicious pumping and daily refill it still works..im not at all disappointed..very reliable lil car

I finally got it done! and what a difference! got to work on it sunday along with mounting my snow tires..snowed good here saturday night..and I found my 205/50-15 Toyo Proxes 4 wanted nothing to do with moving the car in this new snow...same tires on my previous SVX and Probe no trouble in the snow, but on the 7 holy ****..spin all day..im running Hanooks with studs..very fun at 60mph on the freeway..lol the car literally wants to swap ends..but on the snow and ice it's a beast now..always compromises...but to reiterate what others have stated replacing the MC and SC is a breeze with the right tools..it's awesome having a working clutch again very strong pedal feel now....im all giddy

Always check that pesky flexihose that goes to the slave first. It has a way of leaking without shooting fluid all over and revealing itself.
