Clutch noise help
Clutch noise help
Anytime I'm sitting idle, and I engage the clutch, whether or not I have the shifter engaged in a gear or not, I hear some type of spinning/rubbing noise. It's not that noticible, but it's more so now that I got my exhaust leak fixed (even though it was still there before.) The clutch has been replaced in the last couple of years or so, it's not slipping and I have no problems shifting or other clutch problems besides whatever this noise is...
So my question is, is it normal or something I need to be concerned about?
Thanks in advance!

I dunno, but I believe it was. It was done before I got the car... it was done at Rotary Performance in Garland, TX, so I would assume they did it.... I'll have to check the records that the previous owner gave me to see if it's on there.
Found this in a different post and tells me my problem is probably the throwout bearing... http://www.mazdatrix.com/g2.htm
Clutch noises from bearing wear (or disintegration) can be diagnosed best by WHEN the noise exhibits itself, and under what conditions. The Mazdatrix page pretty much spells it out for you, so go out to your car and pay close attention to WHEN the noise happens, and then consult the chart.
When I recently replaced my clutch disk, pressure plate, TOB, pilot bearing, front cover, etc. - I found that the symptoms my car had (clutch IN grinding) was consistent with what the Mazdatrix website stated. With confidence, I was ready to replace the offending part, and lo and behold it was the pilot bearing...
Look for the following when you test your car;
1) Clutch in/out
2) 1st/Reverse vs. 2-5
3) Engine under power or coasting
Most problems that you will find can be traced to only a few bearings and parts which are all easily accessible from the transmission bell housing area. Note that I said easily 'accessible', and not always easily 'replaced' (pilot bearing removal)! HTH,
