Nope, they mean distributor or manufacturer. I could post the whole thing, but it's loooong and full of legalese. Remember, under the law corporations are persons, and proprieterships and partnerships are owned by persons.

First, FMVSS.108 deals with seatbelts, helmets, child seats, headlights, and other safety equipment. Exhaust is not part of that statute.

Second, of a headlight isn't DOT compliant and blinds an oncoming car, a fatal accident could occur. If a header 'fails' and restricts your exhaust, making oyur car run poorly, it's unlikely that'll cause an immediate accident at moment of failure.

After Ford Exploders started doing backflips off the highways due to bad tires, many beurocrats collectively got spanked as people wondered why safety regs weren't being adequately enforced.

Just like 911 begat DHS and the Patriot Act, the automotive safety scandals of the early part of this century begat NHTSA crackdowns.

edited to spell 'helmets' right

Ahhhh...

So this crack down isn't on all non-DOT or "for offroad use only" stuff, it's just a crackdown on the safety stuff covered by that particular code of law.

My bad.

It's like how I can pass a safety check with an RB exhaust on but not with a rope as a seatbelt. Because one is unsafe to me or others, and the other is not.

He may choose to stop selling REAR ones. There's nothing keeping him from selling the front ones, and I'll feel like a complete *** if he does. They look awesome, and will be fine with amber bulbs.

DirectFreak came up with a good point.

Cars made before 63 don't require seatbelts (may be wrong in year but point is given), and cars from the early 70s only had one side mirror (like the first run of RX-7s)

So the year of the car could be given to excuse the corner markers.

Unless someone did some research as to when that came up.

Cars that didn't require seatbelts rarely came with seatbelts, right? Manufacturers don't go out of their way to add parts that aren't needed, unless it'll enhance sales.

Our cars came with 'em stock. Therefore they need them. If oyu fill in the hole with metal and paint over it, you might get away with it. If you run clear lenses back there, you might get away with it. Depends on your local LEOs. I can only speak to what is required, not what your locally elected sherriff will use as his reason to collect a few hundred bucks out of oyu for his doughnut fund

The front and rear light sizes are slightly different.

Dan is not the manufacturer of this part. Just like NAPA is not the manufacturer of the red bulb you need to buy to make the rear side markers work. Most of the problems LEOs have are with taillamps, a cop would have to be having a pretty fucked up day around where I live to care about how red my rear side markers are at night.

I've had Jose Reyes clears on my car for many years. Never had any problem but I drive my car like I own it, not like I stole it...

Even though he's not the manufacturer, he would be pinned as the distributor. I wouldn't want anyone to get in trouble for something as stupid as some rear lenses so...

Put me down for a set of front clear ones and a set of "SPECIAL GSL-SE-SL" front clear lenses for the front AND not FOR the REAR LENSES.

I'm not sending subliminal messages lol....

In all actuality, you'd probably be low on their list, Dan - but I'd rather you have your ducks lined up just-in-case, while at the same time continuing to provide us with great stuff

Dan won't get in any trouble whatsoever. I DO want a clear "IoTus" style tailights very much though. That would be awesome. He had agreed to make me a set a long time ago, and then sold his car and changed his life, etc..
ahh iotus, i got the honor to drive that beast and see it daily... (the code blues bought it)
