chime/alarm wont stop

i have an 84 rex i just bought last month and last night this really annoying chime/buzzer started going off and it wont stop (when car is running). it did this before when i first got it and that same day my alternator went out. i replaced the altenator but i am not sure if that chime is related to the alternator. it is not the door open chime or the light chime because those are differant and not as loud. should i try to disconnect it or and how do i do that? i would appreciate some help of any kind.
thanks-

Do we have seatbelt buzzers? I can't recall but might be work checking for a wire coming from the button side.

up under the dash above your left foot, there is a small box that has the speaker or alarm in it, its about 1.5"x2.5". unplug it. if its making the sound why your looking for it it is easy to find, mine would come on and off all the time and finally it never went off so i took it out

It usually means that the coolant level is below the sensor at that time. That could be because the coolant reservoir bottle is low or the radiator cap is bad and not allowing it to pull the extra coolant out of the bottle when needed.
It's also possible that the sensor wire is grounding out somewhere but I have never had one do that.

I have an 85, and have went through a similar issue. Some say oscillator, some say coolant warning, but none were what I had experienced. The buzzing came from behind the instrument cluster. My coolant level was fine (light was not on) and I tested it by removing the wire from the sensor at the top of the rad. Light came on so I ruled that out. I disconected the oscillator but it still buzzed. Finally I started parking in my garage and the buzz went away (thinking condensation). When it was on I could stop it by pulling the first fuse to the right in the fuse box but that killed my guages and turn signals. One morning I let it buz till it buzzed no more... and it hasn't done it since. May or may not help you... but it did for me.

I topped my coolant level off and the issue ended in my case. I seem to lose a little coolant out of my sensor on top of the radiator. Never enough to even make a drop to the ground, but a little trickle that sits on the lip of the radiator. I only added about 4oz to the radiator so the amount was minimal.

There is a good thread about the pros and cons of disconnecting your buzzer here archived. It may be worth a read if you are looking for some more opines...

Buzzer Fix...

Gents:

I had the same problem about two weeks ago with an 85 GSL running smooth. Here is what I did to my car:
(by the way, I assume no responsibility for following my advise. If this does not fix your problem, consult an RX7 expert. And by no means I'm in that category)

1. Make sure your coolant level and oil levels are good by Mazda standards

2. start the car on a semi dark evening (buzzer on)

3. Let it warm up at normal iddle (about 10-15 mins) (buzzer still on)

4. At this point my car's temp was fine, oiol pressure was ok, engine running normal (buzzer still on and annoying the hell out of me)

5. Now check the catalitic converter (under the car, the first one or tow muffler like thingies with a small metal straw connected to the engine)

6. Mine was red. (red=no good, I'm talking about close to call 911)

7. If you don't have a performance free flow exhaust, most definitely you have a clogged up catalytic converter that needs to be free!!! (You will need help from a muffler shop or from a friend of yours that can unplug this thing at no charge) the sound will be a little louder, but the performance will be a lot better!!!

8. Keep your fingers crossed that your old beater will work for a while

9. Post your results or IM me so I can show your message to my friends and brag about fixing your car!!!

10. Thanks!!!

thanks

thanks for the help.
i ruled out the oil / radiator fluid / and i looked under the car after driving it for about 20 minutes and the cat converter seemed fine. i didn't see anything glowing. it might be because of the moisture getting in the car and shorting out the chime because the only 2 times this chime went off it was raining really hard.
all the rubber around my doors and windows are old and falling apart. they dont seal very well.
i guess i should fix those seals. does anybody know where i can get that?

thanks for the help.
