cheap new exhaust?

So the exhaust on my '82 rex is shot, junk, kapoot... the muffler is rusted and plugged, the pipe going into it isnt going into it due to being rusted out... the cat is most likely plugged, along with the pre cat....

so I am looking for a complete exhaust sytstem being header all the way back to the muffler, I found ONE for about $900 thats still too much.... I WANT ONE CHEAP... does anyone have theirs from a performance mod? I am just looking for something simple, I am not making it a race car as of yet.....

PLEASE HELP!

Define Cheap.

You can get RB, Great stuff but a little high Or you can be unhappy with what you buy.

If you want cheap, go to a local muffler shop and have them fab a new exhaust for you. You might not like the sound of it, but you'd probably get away with it for just a few hundred dollars.

Yeah it's very expensive. Most of the places around my house wanted 350 for the cat back. Come to find out that my cat is clogged anyway, the price tag just keeps going up. I suggest buying some headers and going straight pipe if you know someone that can weld and such. Otherwise you will have to check all your cats to make sure none of them are clogged, make sure your split air pipe (the bastard) is still working and then pay somone to put it all together. You can find some pace setter headers (bad rep around these parts) off of ebay for 115-145 bucks and then buy some pipe from somewhere. That will probably put you around 200 all together, then you just need to find a muffler (or 2) and someone to put it together for yah. Either way, RX-7 exhaust is a pain in the ***.

if you still have a stock exhaust manifold..and want to do (CHEEP) than have the ndo an axle backwhere the 2 pipes go into 1 b4 the rear end have them cut it there and add some 2 1/8 pipe all the way back thru a ebay muffler on it and have them make a test pipe for you..it wont sound to bad wasint to loud for me..and i think it was like 80 bucks caz its only 4 welds and like 2 bends..

that is probley about as cheep as you can doit and most the time they will have a pice of pipe that has been left over off a diff job caz it was to long and you wont have to pay the full price for the pice that they use(caz the guy b4 you paid for it)

thats my 2cents

I had my local guy build my pipes for my DD at only $85, I supplied the header, pre silencer and muffler, total for set up was $400 for a nice sounding system that isn't to loud, of course that included a new RB header.

Note this is not for race just a good sounding street car

I've found (much to my chagrin) that rotaries will never be quiet enough to escape police notice unless there is a baffled/chambered silencer/muffler in the mix somewhere. Also, the tone and character of the exhaust note is markedly improved by using even the mini RB presilencer. It does what it's advertised to do and removes much of the tinny sound and just leaves the lower tones.

If things go my way, I'll be testing a setup comprised of the RB single outlet header, two RB presilencers and a Borla turbo muffler. I'll definately let you guys know how it goes.

I have stock manifold (came with the car), bonez cat replacement pipe (includes a silencer, $135 shipped), stock connecting pipe between cat and stock muffler (came with the car) and an intact stock muffler from the boneyard ($15).

The RB system wasn't within my budget, it sounds good so far, and feedback from others on the bonez pipe is good in terms of longevity. It's a DD. For the $150 or so I spent, I'm happy. What I had before was a cobbled-together mess of ill-fitting and leaky pipes and way to much noise.

If your connecting pipe (the one that goes from the cat to the muffler) isn't TOO bad, you could do what I did. Basically I just got the RB cat replacement pipe ($125) and then a cheapass muffler. You can install the cat pipe yourself (easy) and have a muffler shop remove your old stuff and put the new muffler on. This setup is L-O-U-D, but it's cheap and good for power. Also, the muffler doesn't do much in the way of muffling anymore, the rotary heat ate it alive, but it's not as loud as a totally straight pipe.

One day I'm going to get the RB muffler to make it quieter, I swear.
