CD player install in a gsl-se question
I've searched pretty hard for any information on installing a cd player in a gsl-se. I notice there are no exact kits for our cars. Any tips would be very helpful before i start tearing things up Ive seen a few pictures of installs that look great. How are you doing it?

For the wiring, you CAN find a wiring kit that works for the SE, although it's made for a late 80's Mazda truck (I forget the exact model.) However, it's nearly useless.
The only wires you can use from the kit you can make yourself. You just need a multimeter to find out which plugs are the hot power wire and the accessory power wire, then just put a male or female spade connector (whichever fits) into the appropriate plug.
You can't use the stock speaker wiring. The wiring runs to amps located elsewhere in the car, which you can't use with an aftermarket setup. Plus, it's 20 year old wiring so it probably only barely works. Run fresh wiring all around the car, it's pretty easy in the GSLSE.
Finally, for the install kit you're not going to find one that is listed for an 84, I don't think, but I used a cheapass plastic install kit made for a FC. It fits pretty well, although not quite perfectly. If you want something that looks nice, get a shop to fab up something for you.
