Causes of leading ignition failure??

I'm trying to get a buddy's 84 SE running. I asked him to test the spark to see if any was getting to the plugs since w/o leading the car would not start at all and there was no spark so I thought it was the coil, but it wasn't since a new one didn't solve the problem. Next i was thinking ignitor, but we swapped in one from my LE and that didn't work either...

So now i'm pretty confused on where to check next. What else could cause the leading ignition to fail? I've been looking at the wiriing diagrams, but i need to be looking at the car to remember the wire colors. I plan on going over there tomorrow afternoon to check if he even has power going to the coil or not. but besides that, I'm stumped. Any hints??

Phil

Check all the leading wires and plugs. The car will actually start with only trailing cause mine did. You just let it crank without touching the throttle. My leading coil went bad and that's what happened

We got it running yesterday. When we put on the different leading ignitor, and cranked it, it was shorted out by some bare wires which were eaten by some battery acid. So we fixed those and the plopped anther ignitor on, and she fired right up. So he new owes me for the ignitor (which came from my car, but i installed a MSD then too). Thanks for all the help!
