catalytic converters, dang.

Everytime I drive the car for 5, 10, or 15 minutes, the cat will be smoking. I tried researching why, and found no answer. There's just a bunch of smoke coming from it and i need help!

and it sure as hell doesn't smell too good.

Often, its from oil leaking from the tail of the tranny,or from the engine. The leaking oil is slung or blown into contact with the VERY hot cat and it burns.Mine used to smoke badly until I buttoned up all my leaks.....(bad trans tail seal and engine leak of death, which did kill my engine)

same here, oil leak from the top of my engine somehow found its way to get oil all over the front bottom of my car, so often when im stopped and the winds not blowing my car starts dissapearing in a cloud of smoke, hoping a rebuild and rb exhaust will fix all that

easiest way to fix it is a racing beat header back exhaust with a bbq sandwich.

I know I do have an oil leak, and thats why Im using 30w oil now. Where and how should I go about buttoning up the leaks? I plan to eventually buy the rb full exhaust, so that'll help also?

Most common areas to check are oilpan gasket and OMP seal. They are both down low and near all the sloshing oil in the pan.
The oilfilter pedestal is another common offender and is easy/cheap to fix.If you have a beehive water/oil cooler up there, its still cheap but not so easy to get those o-rings changed out.
If you dont have a beehive, then also check the oil lines going to the cooler under the radiator. They tend to go bad after all these years, and can leak a lot.
The crank main seals dont tend to leak anymore than any other engine, but they can go bad over time.
The dowlpin oil leak is very common on 1st gens and can leak profusely around the upper corner of the engine near the distributor.Unfortunately there is no fix for this, except with an engine rebuild.
Also check your trans output seal where the driveshaft goes in.Its hard to see with all the heatsheilding in place, but the spinning driveline will sling tons of oil onto the cat if that seal leaks.

I'm so clueless on many things right now.

My cat is smoking (probably from what yo all have said)
and my exhaust is putting out dark smoke sometimes.

Should I fix the oil leak, buy a Bönez Performance Converter System, and the RB exhaust?
Or should I just try to clean the cat and put on the Power Pulse Presilencer?
H E L P.
Thank you.

Dark smoke is probably nothing more than carbon deposits being blown out.

Is that 30w you speak of a cheap synthetic? That would be what's making them.

I'm not sure, I'll check, but I use the 30w because I have a leak(s) that I havn't fixed yet.

Can anyone help with the cat/rb exhaust?

Oh 30w alone isn't bad at all, but cheap synthetics will hurt ya. If you must go synthetic you get what you pay for (on rotaries at least)

Fix the leaks first before you clean the cat. Then if it still smokes try to clean it. Or I have a brand new one sitting here in a box if you need it last ditch.

My cat smokes like a **** every time after I turn the car off -- My manual gearbox rear extension housing seal or the surface on the drive shaft gear is not sealing and the gear oil drips out the back of the tranny, gets sprayed all over everything coming off the driveshaft and it burns on the cat
