Catalytic Converter question

Im looking at a purchasing a 1985 GSL-SE that currently has a complete aftermarket exhaust system (not sure by whom). In GA, the car needs to have a catalytic converter to pass inspection. How difficult would it be to add this back to the system? What would the approximate cost be? It also has some smog thing removed as well, but he has the original to reinstall. Anyone know about this too?

Im in Atlanta

Mark

Well, there are very few manufacturers of exhaust systems for the RX-7... Perhaps you can find an insignia on it...

Racing Beat is popular, so is Mindtrain... If it's Monza Pacesetter, thorw it out and put the stick system back on...

Racing beat systems usually incorperate a presilencer... Perhaps you can get the flanges off the presilencer and put a cat in there instead...

MindTrain is a modular system... The stock cat should fit, although the stock cat is very crappy, It's of the pellet deisgn and doesnt flow well... Perhaps a Bonez unit would fit.

What amount of money to do this? Less than $500? It has headers too. Im assuming that somewhere down the exhaust, I can replace with a system that will get me past inspection.

hey you can probably just have someone cut out a section of pipe and weld in a catalytic converter. it's a special cat. though that has a little tube coming out of the side of it that runs up to the engine compartment. victoria british offers one for $180. That would probably be your cheapest route. It's probably the air pump that was removed. As long as it's all there and you can get it all hooked up with the new cat, you should pass the sniff test.

The presilencer doesn't have flanges. It's got studs mounted to the ends of the can.

You can make flanges to bolt up easy enough though. use the gasket as a pattern.
