FWIW I mounted my mallory on the sheetmetal behind the bins. The plumbing section actually had some 1/2" thick rubber washers, dunno what they are originally designed for but they're great sound insulators. Though the Mallorys are known to be quiet (so I can't comment on noise levels) I can say that mounting it there seemed fine to me, just make sure you place it properly so that you clear your swaybar. When I first put mine on and lowered the car onto its wheels, the saybar started smacking into it. Damn near almost knocked it loose the first drive I took with it. I dropped it a half inch lower than I had mounted it and the problem was solved.
