carter mounting location
I searched the forum to find a carter fuel pump mounting location and all I could find was 'on the side, before the differential' . I tried to find a good place to mount the pump today, but no go. Can anyone offer a detailed description and/or a picture of where you mounted the pump? My stock fuel pump is on its way out. The fuel lines are clear, the carb is clean and the filter is new and I topped the car out at 82 mph! I can tell a big difference from a couple months ago when the pump was fuctioning properly. Thanks a lot!
The best place to mount it is on the side of the chassis frame rail just where it starts to curve up over the diff.
You need to drill a couple of holes and then use the self tapping bolts that come with the kit to secure bracket.
For the pump inlet I used a 90* barb fitting to keep the fuel line well away from the diff.
Hope this helps.
edit- Remember to use Loctite thread sealant on all the connections. Apparently you shouldn't use thread tape as it can find it's way into the pump and cause damage.

Mount it on the frame rail, but make sure it is top end up, or vertical. Otherwise it wont' last. You will need two or at least one 90 degree fitting. I used two. You will have to drill holes, it is a lot of fun let me tell you. You can use thread tape BUT....two things are important if you do....
1. Use the yellow teflon tape made for gas fittings, not the white stuff made for water.
2. You absolutely do not want to get any tape near the entrance of the pump. What I mean is do not tape up the threads to close to the pump. The reason that the pump manufacturers say not to use the tape is because it is too easy for people to use too much tape and get it near the functioning part of the pump. The next thing you know a piece gets in to the mechanicals of the pump and no more pump.
Oh yeah, one other thing. It is a good idea to have a filter BEFORE the pump to catch any garbage coming out of the tank. You can also install one after if you wish.
By the way, if you put a Carter pump on, you will need a regulator (Holley) and a pressure gauge. The only gauge that is accurate enough to set your pressure correctly is sold by Paul Yaw. $45.00.
hope this helps,

pm me if you have any questions.

you can use any pipe dope (tape or paste) but make sure that not to put any on the first 3 thread. otherwise, debris may go inside the unit. just a rule in plumbing that i wanna share with everyone.
