Carbon Fiber

Anybody have any Carbon fiber Mods in
their First Gen?

I am thinking of doing the Center console
in CF, and possibly the area around the gauge cluster, door handles, etc.

I hear its awesome, and I hear it sux.

I got this from a member (I forget where)
but I modified it a little differently. In CF
it should look awesome

So If you got 'em, flaunt em' (pics).
If you don't, then give ideas.

This a a continuation of my "Custom Interiors"
thread.

CF is expensive and hard to mold.

fake CF overlays always looked fake to me, but some have said certain overlays looked good. The parts for sale section has some pix of 3rd gen interior and exrierior peices a fella is doin, and they look good in the pix to me. I would like to see them close up in person to see if a fake overlay can look good.

I do not know why a well done overlay could not look good. High definition pictures of real CF on high quaility glossy overlay should look good enough, one would think. As it is I have yet to see fake CF that I like.

I am not sure of the Overlays/Tape. It depends, I guess with some Clear Spray over it it would look nice.

Between the Net and the Forum, I found these..

I do not know about you but that fake CF looks fake to me. But it is an opinion thing. I like the look of real CF. And would love a few select interior parts in CF.

Most of the fake stuff looks fake because it is too uniform or the person appling it wasnt thinking about how real carbon would look. Example: that wheel looks pretty good, but real CF wouldn't just magically bond to the remainder of the rim.

If you want to try making real carbon fiber pieces you can get the fabric here: http://www.carb.com/

Carbon Fibre, unlike Kevlar, is easy to work with. The technique is the same as fibreglass. The standard of the finished product depends on the finish of the mould. I agree mock carbon fibre just looks fake

Funny! I just found those last night! I've been reading them and might just try it. Seems like an original idea for an FB.

i read those when i was looking for a CF hood for my FB. since no one made them I thought about making one myself. but it seemed like too much hassle, so I put it off. I did find a place that would make the CF hoods if anyone is interested. They said about 800 bucks, though.
