Carb screws giving me hell
Carb screws giving me hell
So I'm trying to rebuild the carb. My first step is to remove all the emissions and unnecessary stuff such as the omp linkages. My problem is that this carb has sat for quite a while and all the screws and linkages and what not are rusted. I've got a majority of the emissions gone but I still have stuff to take off and cant get the screws to budge. I tried the old school tap the screw driver with a hammer trick--nothing. I soaked the carb in WD-40 and let it sit overnight--still nothing.
In my efforts I've almost stripped one trying to get it to back out. I sure as hell dont want to break one off in the carb. Anyone got any advice? My patience is starting to run thin, cause for two days now I've been fighting these screws.

You can usually get a pair of vice grips on the edge of the screwheads to remove the stubborn ones. I got that advice from RX7Carl when I ran into the same issue, and it worked just fine. Good luck...
By the way, WD40 is crap. Invest in a can of PB Blaster instead.

I thought about getting some pb, but I figured as much WD as I soaked this carb in they would have broke free but that turned out to not be the case. I'll give the vice grip idea a try tomorrow.
Normally the ol smack on the back of the screwdriver with a hammer trick works, but these lil buggers are in there. I hope they break free without breaking the head off. Thanks, I'll let you know how it turns out.
