Hmmm. ok Im trying to buy a carb rebuild kit and they are telling me that there are two different part numbers for the kit for an 82 Rx7.. They say one is for the 12A and the other is for a 1146CC and i say yeah umm those are the same thing.. so whats the dealio? They can look it up by the part number on the carb but I can't seem to find one... any ideas?

If they have them in stock, ask to look at them. If one has rubber gaskets, and the other has paper, buy the rubber one. Other than that, they should be the same I would think. Maybe one has more parts, such as the AP diaphragm, and the needles and seats? Just see if you can check them out and pick the best one. They may even be willing to order them both in if they don't have them, and just send back the one you don't want.

Yeah.. they have to order them and they wont order both of them unless I buy them.. One is $36 the other is $43 and the part nums are different and they also have a list of carb part numbers for each kit.. so I get the impression that there are different carbs out there... i dunno

natew- we can't make a sticky about every usual question because there would be pages of them. But we are all working on a FAQ page, and it's right in there.

yeah i know... i looked through the faq and spent about 4 hours reading every god damned post on carb rebuilding and browsed through just about the entire internet looking for this.. I'm not looking for info on what rebuild kit to get, i can figure that out on my own.. What i'm having trouble with is that the only place in town that can get me a kit is telling me that they have two different kits listed for that year car and so what I need to know is what freakin kit to get and about all they could tell me to do was find the part number on the carb and so that is what im looking for... so if there is a thread that already explains where to find a part number on a carb please refer me to that and i'd be happy to read it but i don't see one!

I've never seen one intact either.
I think the guy you spoke with is'nt reading something correctly. Maybe there are two different brands that they use.
Anytime I get parts from an auto place they just ask me if it's the "1.2 or the 1.3 liter". That's about it, and of course the 13B 7 wasn't carbed.
There are minor differences between autos and manuals, but the gasket set is the same. There are also differences between California carbs and the rest of the world, but again- the gasket sets are the same.
It just does'nt make sense. Call them again and see.

Makenzi your quest for a Mikuni kit has piqued my interest in carrying a variety of kits on my "soon-to-be" website. Carl and I were just discussing it.
Unfortunately, it'll be too late to help you as you'll find one between now and then. (I should hope!)
But it's on our list of things to check out, and as soon as we source them, we'll find a distributer that sells retail and certainly let you know.

Yeah i am confused... I looked at a friends carb and it is on the side of the float bowl... Mine doesn't have one in that exact same spot, i had rubbed that spot off with a damp cloth and some carb cleaner a couple days ago as it was covered in grease... So i think the number is long gone... My friend suggested that one of the parts is for the CA cars and the other is for the fed cars.. but you guys think the gaskets are the same? hmm.. Maybe i should get the more expensive one, maybe it'll be better quality.. Oh and I think they said that both were Standard brand.... <confused>

Hey guys.. I think I got this figured out...
Here goes:
81 & 82 M/T CA = N201-13-200A
FED = N203-13-200A
81 & 82 A/T CA = N202-13-200A
FED = N204-13-200A
Above Uses Standard Motor Products Part #1401
Mazda Part #N201-99-131
------------
83 M/T CA = N233-13-200A
FED = N231-13-200A
83 A/T CA = N234-13-200A
FED = N232-13-200A
Above Uses Standard Motor Products Part #1556
Mazda Part #N201-99-131
84 & 85 Models I believe use Standard Motor Products Part # 1556
Mazda Part Number is N249-99-131.
What differences there are between the carbs or between the gasket sets I have not a clue, i dont feel like spending the rest of the night looking at microfische. From what I can tell the microfische looks indentical... Maybe since I have both an '82 and '85 RX7 i'll order both rebuild kits and compare them... <shrug>

I'm guessing a few extra holes in the phenolic spacer gaskets to accomidate different emissions control circuits added later.
You should'nt attemp to remove the gaskets on the phenolic spacer as they are apparently glued on.

just ordered a kit
Thanks for the link to discountautoparts.com, everyplace I looked here in NW NJ had no kits avail.
SO I just placed an order with discountautoparts.com. I hope to get the rebuild kit by Friday and will start rebuilding next week. Ok, I won't do the rebuild, I have a friend who's gonna do it. I am also hoping to convert over to mechanical secondaries, we will see how it all goes.
