carb question

When I bought my 79, the guy gave me an extra carb. He said the one on the car was from a newer rx7, and the extra one was the original. Firstly I havent got the car running yet. But my question is, will this later carb still work fine, or should I use the original? Also how can I identify what year each carb is?

Not familiar with a 79 or 80 carb but I know that the 84/85 carbs had an extra pair of vacuum lines coming out of the top most piece of the carb (the part that the air filter piece connects to). Other than that, I am not sure.

From what I understand it should work fine.

What isn't running on your rx?

Check mine out, I just got it running at the beginning of the month. The engine had blown several years ago, and I just got around to putting another engine in. Still got alot of cosmetic stuff to do...

yea it was running just a few months ago and i guess the kid tried to make some adjustments on the carb and changed the floats and screwed something up. Im just going to play with the carb and it should run again. Right now Im just waiting on my new starter. I can turn the motor with my hand easily so I know its not carbonlocked..

Either will work fine if the carbs themselves are ok. The early carb will have 2 big slotted adjustment screws on the drivers (US) side. Also it will have a bigger opening on the primary barrels and a bigger choke plate.
