carb leak

Noticed gas dripping from area as pictured below.
Car starts runs idles well but smokes on start up (really don't know for sure if it's smoke or super rich) If it stalls when cold it can be quite hard to restart.
So might need to pull carb and investigate but thought I'd ask first.
Rat's nest is gone, car is new to us as are rotaries and Nikki's.
Picture was snagged from a thread I found while searching.
(Thanks for the picture apexwarrior)

thats your accelerator pump leaking. time to order a carb rebuild kit and rebuild the carb. no reason not to if its out, on the bench, and you have the kit. the accelerator pump is not sold seperatly from the rebuild kit. the diaphram weakens and splits on the accel pump and it loses pressure. the asurrounding area acts as a gasket and it can fail, causing the leak.

Tempted to go after that diaphragm with carb on car, if the linkage comes off enough to reveal that screw in the corner, seems possible. A full rebuild is fine too but it runs well and I hate to poke sleeping dogs.
PS I hate the 30 minute edit rule.

It can be done, just remove the arm to get to the screw and your home free. Good luck.

I assume that's some little spring loaded doo-dad waiting to fly off into the deepest darkest crack in the floor at the first opportunity?

you cannot remove the accel pump with the carb mounted...without SEVER frustration..there are two tin spacers on either side of the retaining pin..they are near paper thin..its hard enough to get the lined up on the bench let alone on the car in an extremely confined space. pulling the carb with the rats nest on is a 10 minute job..without the rats nest, its a 7 minute job. pull the carb and do the job right the first time.

Advice received. Carb off in about 7 minutes. Looking at how the pin is retained on the linkage to acc. pump. So far, so good.
