what up peeps need some info got an 84 bone stock gsl what is that thingy ma jigg under the carb that makes the humming noise when it goes bad? what it do,best way to fix,how hard, blah blah blah. thanks for any info.

 

Shutter valve?

 

The valve it'self won't make that noise. When shutter goes back it starves the 2nd rotor of fuel air mix and causes a rough idle that sounds like ****. What's your symptoms?

 

u pretty much hit the nail on the head. rough idle and occasional hmmming noise. so is that what it is called shutter valve?

 

It will be on your intake manifold, on the right as facing from the front of the car, closer to the firewall. It's kind of mushroom shaped with a couple tubes coming off it. It may be stuck closed (read: bad). You'll have to get it open and wire it open or somehow find another way to keep it open.And yes, if we're all thinking along the same lines, that would be the shutter valve. Take pics and post so we can make sure.
