Carb gummed up over long winter?
Carb gummed up over long winter?
Hey guys, I am still checking on a super clean 85 GSL, the owner bought a new Vette and is selling his REX, anyway it was very underpowered, although it ran smooth...
He said he didn't drive it at all all winter from perhaps Nov. to just recently...
It looks like it needs new plugs, the oil was clean, it didn't smoke at startup or during driving, but I felt it was very underpowered...Considering it had the full Mazda Trix exhaust including a header. It was also quiet as stock...But I didn't even think it ran as good/strong as a stock 1st gen....
Could the carb be gummed up? It also looked like the fuel filter was old...It didn't stumble or anything, just weak power...
Any imput is great, Thanks!

The secondaries probably weren't opening. There could be gum and varnish buildup here and there inside the carb, as you mentioned, but mainly in the secondaries. The linkage would benefit from a little lube as well.
Also replace the fuel filter etc.
