Carb Gas Plunger????

1985 12a

I noticed this morning alot of gas going into my carb. So I disconnect the wire that actuates the plunger for the gas entering the carb, but it wasn't working. I kept on plugging it in and out until I heard the click. Now what is this plunger called and where can I get it. Will replacing stop this madness of gas dimping in my carb?

I believe it called a "float bowl vent solenoid" or something along those lines. Will it fix your issue? Sounds like it. Good luck!

hmmm , if you are hearing the click that means the magnet it doing it's job. it's pulling the plunger open. that's the click from it hitting the back when it opens. when you disconnect it the spring pushes it back closed. but that normally won't click.

soooo, lets just assume that it's doing it's job. check your float level. what are they at?

edit: is gas dumping down the carb when the car is off? or only when it's running.

Ok, so key on, no clickie? Did you check to be sure theres power to the plug? If you need a solenoid and spring I'll send you one but they rarely go bad. The plunger itself is tough to get out. DONOT try and remove the plunger! You could try and unscrew the solenoid and make sure its not all gummed up, stuck.

Yes if your having flooding problems, this should fix it.

Yah, it's weird. This just started( two days now)in the mornin and once I get the car started and it warms up it doesn't do it again.

It does it right away cause the car shuts quick.

Zac you butcher! You dont use a dremel to get that out. You cut the plastic end of the plunger with dykes and yank it out with a pair of pliers! Of course that ruins it LOL. The gentlemens way is to remove the big brass insert, then it falls out. Theres a trick to that to but dont try that at home. Its a bear.
