carb, choke, starter....?

ok need some advice.
my 84' 12a has issues. some mornings when i start her up she starts fine on the 1st turn of the key. no smoke. other mornings she takes 2 or 3 turns of the key to fire up almost sounds like she floods. then she smokes (bluish), then it goes away. i know its not coolant cuz i check periodically and never have to top it off. always pull choke out all the way. i think i have a vac leak cus when she's warmed up she'll idle at 800 rpm, but when she cold she idles at 400-600 till she's warm. i got fresh plugs/wires, cap, rotor. so dunno. could my carb/choke be off to where it'll make it smoke after trying to fire up a couple times? Is my motor tired? anybody else's puff the blue? how long did yours last like this? like i said some mornings. she fires right up w/no probs. could it be my starter? i know sometimes it seems like it spins till it catches.
thnx

david

I have less than 2000 miles on my brand new engine, and mine is idling at 1500, fixed most vac leaks, except back at the tank. Mine does the same thing, except warm it sometimes drops to 1100 rpm's or 1000 rpm's. I have a street port on mine as well, original carb-rebuilt (still hoping that went as it should have- new fuel pump (holley 96 gph) even a fuel regulator, still has those mornings when it wants to flood OR it will run like hell (flooding) after I start it and I have to pull the choke out full and floor the pedal just to keep it running, which after a min or 2 , will smooth out. I need to figure out what the hell to do, was told my shutter valve should come out, waiting to see what the census is on that. If I get info, I will share in a NY minute.

i put in a new fuel pump, filter. sometimes when i come to a stop while driving the revs drop to like 400rpm's thenpicks back up to about 900 then stays steady there. what about the occasional puffs of smoke every so often?

dude,

swing by my place on Sunday, and I'll have a look at it.

Shutter valves should always come out... unless they required specifically for a race class.... and their holes are plugged correctly.
