Question carb base gasket?

This one is for all of you carb gurus .

Once all of the emissions crap has been removed do I still need to have the huge plastic "gasket" where all the vac lines used to be ?

I was thinking about making a new gasket out of the leftover felpro that I have ?

the one that is currently on the engine is cracked and mazdatrix wants around $130 for a new one?

peace

it's used as a "catch" and to protect the carb from exhaust heat right below it. not sure what else it would affect though.

heat

I figured that it had some effect on heat reduction to keep the fuel from boiling

I made my own gasket from a basic gasket I got in a rebuild kit for $20. It serves no purpose once the rainbow of colorful switches is removed.
