Carb Adjustments????????
Carb Adjustments????????
Can anyone tell me where to start. I think I read that the Mixture adjust screw is two and a half turns out. How about the throttle adjust screw? I can't keep the car idling unless I keep the choke out or my foot on the gas and then if it goes under 1200 rpm it wants to die. Any ideas would be helpful. I am aware that this could be a vacumn problem. But i've replaced all vac. hoses with silicone and if I can't get it fixed by adjusting the carb then I will have to remove the carb and put a new carb base on due to the one I have on there now has been cracked and I really can't tell if it is causing a vac. leak there or not. I have another one but I am tring to make this as easy as possible. I really need a starting point for the carb adjustments. Thanks, Vic
by the throttle adjust screw do u mean the idle screw, if so its located below the accelerator pump, you will be able to see it with a flashlight, has a cross head screw, doesnt take much turning to raise or lower rpms, also to the left of the thermostat housing is the throttle position sensor screw (looking from passenger side fender), flashlight again to find, just remember how much and which way u turn the screw to adjust in case u want to set it back to where it was, it sounds like you may still have a vac leak thou, spray some wd40 around the base of the carb with it running , you should here the idle raise if the spray finds a vac leak, hang in there, u will find it...good luck,, and 2 1/2 turns is a good starting place for the a/f screw,,,,

If your spacer is cracked, replace it. It's that simple. You'll chase your tail forever trying to adjust the carb when all you're really doing is trying make the carb work with a gigantic vacuum leak that it was'nt designed to live with.
So then when you replace that spacer, and put the carb back on, it'll suprise you by STILL running like ****. You'll have forgotten that you screwed the carb up so bad that you basically have to start where you are now (Only less the enormous vacuum leak).
If you've ever had the airhorn off a carb, andc have seen the idle air bleeds, you'ld realize that a leak the size of a pin hole can cause your carb to be completely screwed up...if it even runs at all.
With a crack, there might be a seriously LARGE leak!

Why? Have you cracked yours, too?! How in the hell...?
Anyways, the spacer serves to create vacuum ports for the emissions system, yes; But it's primary function is to insulate the carb from the engine heat.
Gotta have it sealed up, though.
Gotta-gotta-gotta!
