Car won't start and I did look at the FAQ page.
Ok for the past few weeks I have been trying to change my ring and pinion and have succesfully done so. After getting everything bolted back up I try and start the car up for the first time in a few weeks.
I have an 84 se
I tried to start the car and it slowly turned over.
1) Battery
Obviously this should be caused by a low battery, but the battery was not that bad. About a month ago I had it tested and it was good. All the interior lights worked great and the headlights looked bright. I decided to charge the battery anyway. The battery charger I was using had a jump start feature. I used it and the starter just barely turned the motor over.
2) Starter
I will test it tomorrow, but as of today all the wires were hooked up and the starter is only half a year or so old.
3) Ignition Switch
After trying to start the car for a while it totally ceased to turn over. I was having trouble getting all the dash lights to light up when I turned it in the on position before starting the car. I would turn the key to start and nothing would happen, except for the fuel pump pumping. I then tried to start it a few more times and I then turned the ignition to the off position and the lights did not go out and I could still hear a humming (fuel pump maybe).
I took the ignition switch out, cleaned it off with steel wool, and then reassembled the part. Besides a little wear, the switch looked fine. I reainstalled it and found the same problem. Only the BRAKE light and the passenger seatbelt light would come on and I could not get all the lights to come on as usual.
I have no idea what is going on. Could it be the fusible links or something?
All my friend and I have done to the car since it last started is: change the clutch and throughout bearing, change the ring pinion and set backlash, change axle bearings, change all rear end seals, change tranny fluid, change rearend fluid, bleed brake and clutch, and change the clutch slave cylinder.
None of this should have anything to do with the car not starting. (except I found two little green wires by the tranny and we are not sure which connector they plug into, because the wires look identicle)
I am sorry for the length, but I wanted to try and tell everything that went on.

Sounds like a grounding issue. Are you sure you heard the fuel pump? They're not supposed to pump until the engine is turning (-se's that is), did it do this before? Another grounding issue? Check your fuseables and definately your ground, bat terms too.

It was the ground that went to the motor. It some how got left off when the starter got put back on. The car started and it ran great, but after letting it sit for a night I noticed that the right rear brake caliper needs to be rebuilt. Oh well at least it runs.
