Car shakes when starting and turning

If I'm going into 1st gear from a stop and making a turn at the same time my car stutters and shakes. It only happens when I'm starting off turning and now when Im going in a straihgt line. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Check your diff fluid, then the clutch.

It's a 1982 GSL. The guy who sold me it says it has 50k on a new engine, and it has 20k on a tranny rebuild. With like 260k on the body.

The guy I bought the car off of gave me a rear end, axles, and gears. Would putting that in do anything, also. My left wheel bearing is broken too.

Does it shudder in any other gear/speeds? how about when going through the gears? how is the pressure on the clutch pedal when you push it?

It only does it when I'm starting off (taking off from 1st) and turning. If I go straight and put it in gear, then start turning it doesn't do it. All of the other gears feel fine. I haven't tried to start from a stop in another gear so I don't know about all that. but it shifts through them fine.

Maybe the diff isn't working properly (dont know exactly what it would be). Mazdatrix trans troubleshooting says that a bad front U-joint will cause vibration off the line and then goes away. But since you say it only happens when turning, it seems like it would have to be something with the diff. Is the vibration any different depending on which way you turn?

My differential is leaking everywhere. It just shutters when i start off turning and then goes away shortly after i take the clutch out all the way.

If your diff is leaking, fix it, fill it, then take it for a test drive. Don't forget the lsd additive.

You wouldn't drive your car around without oil in the engine, would you?

A friend of mine in high school didn't think much about the gasket he pulled out of his diff one day. When he got out of school to go home, the car would not move. He had welded the gears together from lack of lubrication.

Clean the diff off and fill with fluid, then find where the leak is coming from. The gasket maker between the gear set and axle housing is not stock, so it has been opened up before.

It looks like you may have 2 leaks, one at the front pinion seal and the other where the gasket maker is.

The shuddering is from either low fluid, worn clutch packs, or both.

I didn't even look at this post until now because I figured that this was obvious. If you do not have the LSD addative in the diff you will get chattering when turning at slow speeds.... Good call Trochoid!
