Car Just Wont Start... HElp? Please? ANYONE~!!

I bought my first rx over the summer, and loved it. i went from a tank crown vic, to a rx, so i was happy being 17 years old.. after about 2 months of driving it started losing some low end power, i didnt really think to much of it as i just figured it was the gas or something of this sort, that could be worked out, first day of school.. on my way home i turn on my street, the car sputters, knocks, and shuts off, has not restarted since this day, i have had many ppl look over the car, and help me check everything the could think of. and pretty much we have made no gain, i have a strong spark, my carb is working fine, i even exchanged it with a friends holly to make sure (didnt help ne thing). The starter motor sounds fine, and is turning the motor over, i dont have a timing mark on my belt, but is it possible for it to be off enough that it wouldnt even kind of start?

lol i want my car back~ please help me GOD. or someone that in my mind will be god if they can figure it out~

Also it has some whiteish smoke coming out of the tail pipe, smells mostly like uncombusted gas, and a little bit of combusted gas.

Make sure that your LEADING ignition has a good, strong spark. Perform a fuel flow check on the fuel pump (see Haynes/Chilton manual). Start there and get back to me/us. Oh, God was busy so he sent me instead...

all plugs have a strong spark, and the fuel pump is working fine, plenty of fuel gettin there, but i dont have any way to tell you exatly how much, if its a vaccum leak how would you know>? i dont have the air cleaner on right now.. i can feel air getting sucked in through the carb, but none of the hoses really...

angels are always cool too. lol

Were there any changes made to the timing before this happened, or is your dizzy loose enough that it could have changed? If you have spark, gas, and correct timing, then I'm not sure what to tell you other than try to MMO again to help build up compression. I'll look in and see if God is still busy.

God said to tell you that He loves you, but does not understand rotary engines. He'll check with Moses and get back to me on it. Good luck until that time.

Sounds like it may be flooded. Remove all plugs, remove the fuse for the fuel pump, press accelerator to the floor and hold it while cranking the engine for about 20 seconds at a time. When mist quits coming out of the plug holes, squirt a small amount of MMO into the leading plug holes while turning the engine over by hand to lubricate each combustion chamber, crank one more time to expell the excess, reinstall plugs (remember the leading plugs are on the lower part of the engine) reinstall fuel pump fuse, and try to start it again. DO NOT PUMP THE ACCELERATOR or you will flood it again. Good Luck

This is what I ended up doing last weekend when mine was flooded. Dump a couple ounces of MMO into the carb, open the throttle plates enough to let it run in, turn the main pulley for a bit. Repeat until each of the three chambers (per rotor) has some in it. Rotate the engine a few times, then remove the lower spark plugs. Now begin rotating the engine again, using the front pulley (counter clockwise) and most of the fluid will run out of the plug holes. Once it stops coming out, clean up your spark plugs and reinstall them. Gas pedal got two pumps, choke 1/2 way out, cranked for about 4 seconds and fired right up. Smoked like a chimney too, of course.

Also, if you ever pull the plugs and crank the engine as suggested earlier, make damn sure that your sparking stuff (cables, plugs, etc.) are well away from the area where gas will be shooting out of the engine. Failure to do so leads to horror stories.

Ok, you mentioned Whiteish smoke. Unless it's cold enough to cause the exhaust to look like steem, you got a seal that's probably worn out. White smoke does usually indicate this problem and if it stopped running because of a broken seal then you have already done the damage, you should bring it to a good import mechanic and see if can fix it without having to do a complete rebuild.

Mine did the same thing, turned out to be my fuel filter, Also to unflood it you need to pour one ounce of ATF into the small two barrels of the carb, pump accellerator 3 times hold it down and turned the key until it cranks and set the choke to keep it running until th smoke quits, let it reach the op temp and then the choke goes in. Make sure you have a full charge on batt or use jumper cables from running car. Go to www.rx7.com(Rotary Performance) hit the tech article box and go to unflooding a 1st Gen. Hope this helps you,Gary

I have had one Auto and it was a pure Bear to get it unflooded. Do a compression check first and if it has good compression then I will do a write up on how to unflood the Car. The standard procedure just wont do it.

my compression is all over 90 psi, that was before using mmo at all, with the plugs out the gas cloud getting blown out is huge, and the compression is strong enough to be sending a mist or smoke or something out of my tail pipe, it kinda rolls out when not cranking, but when cranking it looks like normal exast, and it wont start still, it turns over, but doesnt fire, and the little squirts of mmo dont seem to be helping any, how ever i dont wish to keep putting more and more in... so i dont really know what else to do..

If it still doesn't start after all that and you have spark and fuel, I would say the plugs are probably fouled up. Install a new set of plugs and I bet your problem will go away. Be forwarned though, You will have alot of smoke for awhile because of the mmo that has undoubtedly made its way into the exhaust by now.
