my 1981 12a will not start sometimes.can anybody tell me how to narrow the problem.im thinking its ignition switch or starter..the car has a 500 cca battery and clean terminals as well as good ground.how can i test the ignition switch and starter.what the car does is i put the key in the ignition switch and turn it on but all i get is the fuel pump to activate because i can hear it buzzing in the rear.also the cluster does light up when i turn on the ignition but the car doesnt turn over?

please guys help me.i would like to get an idea of what kind of problems i got...

When you try and start it what happens? Is there any clicking or anything? Turn on the headlights and try and start it. Do they dim at all? You could check the wires at the starter itself. They should be clean and tight. Also, just triple check your battery connections to make sure they are clean and tight as well. You would be surprised how many strage things have happened just because the battery cables werent good. They can even look just fine, but not work.
