well i started my car up today and the GEN light and ADD COOLANT light both came on.. so i was like WTF... i opened the hood and my alternator belt was super loose.. so i tightened her up and drove home.. while i was driving my tach was jumping from my normal cruising speeds to double... and back.. like a jerky spaz type of a thing.. and the 2 lights kept comming on.. the belt kept makeing squeeling noises so i figured i had it too tight.. so when i got home i left her running and loosened the belt a little bit.. took care of the noise but not the lights and the tach.. so i wiggled a bunch of wires and finally it went away..

so my question is what should i look for.. which wires? should i look at the tach signal wire? any ideas? i dont think it is doing it anymore and it wasnt affecting mydriving at all..

for a little background info i have a 79 rx-7 with the 12 a.. converted to electronic ignition.. and second gen direct fire.. i have also bypassed the ignition switch and hooked up a start button.. i figure i either have a loose wire or something grounding out ..

 

Hey your lucky at least yours went back to normal, i got a 79 rx7 and just changed to electronic ignition, and its all screwed up, the same to lights come on in mine the gen and coolant light and they dont go off, oh well they were fine before so im not worried, the other thing is my tach never even jumped it just wont work. i know this doesnt help you out but if you find out anything let me know, i dont think any thing is getting screwed up just an aggervation.

 

check the wire from the coil that goes to your tach..

 

i have i pretty much have gone through the whole thing, its a mystery, nothing blown there is power getting where its needed, im not worried about it to much right now but its going to have to be fixed eventually
