You will not be able to hear the fuel pump unless the engine is running. The fuel pump does not come on until you start cranking the engine on your year.

Does the tachometer move when you start cranking the engine?

Most likely, you've got a bad connection at the trailing ignitor. The ignitor itself might be cooked, but don't get too worried about it yet. I'd start by checking the connection, cranking the car, and if you still get nothing, disconnect the noise suppressor (the single bullet connector at the end of the ignitor harness). You can then move your trailing ignitor pickup to the leading ignitor, to see if your tach comes back. You'll still need the ignitors hooked up correctly in order to run, but these steps are good for troubleshooting.

Give it a shot, and tell us what you come up with.

i tried that and still nothing

i then tried to see if there was spark at the trailing coil by testing a spark plug and
i saw no spark so i think this means i need a new trailing ignition coil correct????? since im new to this game of fixing a car by myself

Well, try swapping the coils front and rear and see if the problem follows the coil. Just keep in mind that the ignitors fire the coils, so a bad coil could still be the fault of a faulty or loose ignitor as well. If your tach is still out, then the problem still points to the ignitor.

Did your tach come back when you moved the trailing ignitor connector to the leading ignitor?

New ignitors are over 100 bucks, used ones here on the forum generally run 15-25. Make sure both coils are good before replacing the ignitor. Be sure to use heat sink grease on the back of the ignitor prior to installing.
