cant get hood open

I have an 81 rx7 ive been restoring and i let my older brother borrow it cause he needed a new serpentine belt and didnt know how to. he managed to disconnect my hood release latch (i have a battery cut off screw on the battery) i can still pull the release latch but im guessing its unhooked in the engine compartment. What can i do to get it open, without damaging anything?)

This has happened to me before. If you have access to a lift, there is enough room to get to the latch from under the car. Its not easy.

I have also raised one corner of the hood and used a wire hanger to get to the latch. This will probably bend your hood.

I had this happen when I went to get a smog check... Took me a couple days to devise a gizmo out of aluminum angle from Home Depot to reach up past the exhaust and press the latch release.

Pix around here somewhere, either in my build thread "Project Resurrection" or in the "What did you do to your FB today" thread in Non-technical, dating from May of 2012.

Don't bother trying to undo the front hinges - they are designed so they will NOT lift out of their sockets when the hood is latched.

EDIT: It's here:
