Question Cancer victim; organ donor wannabe

'83 5 speed, 70,000 miles
It could run forever, except the original owners parked it on the street through several Illinois winters and the rear end is securely bolted to...rust.

The 12a starts immediately, rebuilt alternator, fresh belts. Shifts OK but clutch is going fast; the local wrench says he'd fix it "but one good launch and you'll see your differential in your rear view mirror."

Please reply if interested in motor, drive train, other vital organs, glass, or cosmetics (dash, etc.)

I don't want to let go of the car but the karma seems right if someone wants a parts bin with good tires.

My apologies in advance if this should be posted elsewhere; I'll stay teachable.

It's such a distasteful title that I don't think anyone even wants to bother reading it.

Yeah, but it's different than your basic "parting out '83 12A blah blah blah."

The effect is the same, rust is nasty, and spreading.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah that title kinda is "lacking tact" shall we say.

Anyhow, if the rear end is the only thing rusting, I might be swapping the rear end on my '80 race car, it seems to have a limited slip diff, albiet somewhat worn out, it still runs fine.
