can you say eeeew

ever pulled up to a parking spot, killed your car and noticed that it is smoking from under the hood?... then, upon closer inspection, realized you had a big freakin' oil leak?

my car has been leaving a couple small infrequent oil drops in the driveway for a while, and all of the sudden, this week, it got BAD!

i went to the place i used to work and put my car on the lift. it seems almost like the oil is comming from oil pan, but....

the bottom of the a/c bracket is covered in burnt oil and the joint between the front plate and the front rotor housing seems to *glisten*. I'm wondering if maybe the oil is comming fron there, trickiling down and then the wind is spreding it over everything. Is that possible?

Also, there is no APPARENT place it is leaking on th pan, but the pan is completely covered in earl!

im not rich enough to just up and spend 16 dollars and risk not getting it to seal right if its not already leaking. i only want to fix the problem, not keep stabbing at it i cannot afford it right now. my old boss said maybe for some help around the shop he would put some of that dye that glows when it has a special light on it. maybe i can try that and find out for sure!

is it possible for the leak between the front cover and the rotor housing?

Wash and clean the entire area completely..then you will get a much better idea where the leak is coming from.

id start by cleaning off all the oil. like racerX7fb said. its free and it will be easier to pinpoint the leak.

eeewwww... that sucks... and yes, you can pull off the front cover to replace that gasket, because it can leak too. The mazda dealer near you will probably have to order the part, though, so be prepared to wait a week.

Another thing to check is where the the oil cooler line bolts back in to the front. One of my friends had this same problem and that was the problem.

Gaskets, gaskets, we don't need no stinking gaskets!!

I've heard its best to just use ATV to make the front cover gasket. IIRC its because the o-ring that seperates the main oil passage from the pump to the cooler line has been known to blow-out, and your oil pressure go to crap.

Just tighten the bolt(s)? Because i have an oil leak at my oil pan and i am guessing that is a gasket, but also where my oil cooler connects to the oil line is starting to create a leak too.
