Can You Help With Conflicting Information?

Ok, I was about to order my header and pre-silencer from RB, when I remembered that I need some sort of block off plates or whatever. Anyway, someone here said that I need the ACV block off plate or something, well to double check I decided to ask RB. I emailed them asking them what I would need, and they said the same thing. Well I called them to order, and before I told them I was going to buy anything, I asked them if that was the right block off plate. The guy on the phone said that if I order a header, I dont need to buy the plate seperatly because it comes with the header...Well, I emailed them AGAIN (with a different email address to conceal my ID ), and the person that responded said that there are no plates included with the headers. So now im lost, what plate do I need, and do I need to order it seperatly or not? Thanks.

~T.J.

Edit: Its a 1983 GSL that will have an 84 GS block, but still have the 83's carb. and emission crap.

I got my header from RB a while ago (few months ago)and it came with BOTH blocking plates (84 streetable).
You will need to get a new engine to header gasket though

You can still use the ACV with a header, so I do not know why it would come with a blockoff plate. If you remove the Catalytic converter you will need a blockoff plate for the rear air outlet on the intake manifold, so it might come with one of those.

If it were me, and I was getting conflicting info from RB, I would call Mazdatrix, as they sell the RB stuff, and see what they say.

Headers from Mazdatrix

Mazdatrix buys their headers from Racing Beat. So, if you ask the right person realllllll nice, you might be able to get a better price direct from Racing Beat. Don't ask, don't get.

I don't think the Retail price is any different between them.

BUT, Mazdatrix DOES do a very trick mod for the 84-85 GSL-SE's.

Mazdatrix powers the Actuators from the Header. Racing Beat's setup follows a more stock design with the sensing tub coming off the Presilencer.

Problem is because of the lower back pressure of the Presilencer, the Actuators kick in at higher RPM. Coming off the Header, the Actuators kick in at lower RPM's. So, you feel them kick in more often. And I like that Kicking in feeling.

Good job Mazdatrix!

Why do you need plates for just installign headers? Isn't it bolt on where the Thermal Reactor once was, connect it up to the sxhaust and away you go?

cheers'

On a 81-85 it's plateS one plate covers up the ACV you removed from the intake manifold, the other plate covers the Catalytic breather you removed from the intake manifold. You removed these and the smog pump because you want more power.

Never worked on a 79-80 with a thermal reactor.
