Can you fit 225 - 50 - 15 on a 1st gen?

I know 205 - 50 -15s fit, but I have a very low first gen that I would like to sqeeze some even wider tires in.

If they work, what offset did you use and did you go with a 7" or 8" wide wheel?
Did you rill the fenders?

Thanks ~ JEB

I did not modify my rear fenders, and the wheels are stock 1990 RX-7 convertible BBS 15 inch, I think they are 7 wide. Sorry, but I don't know the offset. My car is stock height. I have plenty of room for the 225-50 in the rear. Any good tire/wheel shop should be able to look up the offset for these wheels.

My fronts are pretty tight, they are 205-50-15, same wheels, and we had to make some 1 1/4 inch thick spacers to clear the struts . Photos at:

I've got 205/60/R13 on the stock + wheels. Anything wider, and the tire would hit the strut. I have about 1/2" clearance. I'm sure I could fit something wider on the rear.

I've run 225/50-15 on the back with 7" wide rims (0 offset on back and +12 on the front if memory serves). I don't remember them rubbing back there. They were too wide for the front (and I had 6" wide up there) and too tall for my taste on the back, to top it off they were hands down THE WORST rain tires I've ever owned. I burned them up and threw them out in just a couple months. 205/50-15 on a 7" rim is my preference.
