Can my power antenna be repaired?

Suddenly, my power antenna stopped working. When "closed" it sticks out about 8 inches. When open, it pushes out and hands by the internal cables, scratching at my car. Can it be fixed or must I remove it and replace it? I have searched the net and this forum and have concluded that a proper replacement will be difficult to find.
Suggestions? Are there any suitable non-retracting replacements that look nice on these first generation cars?

I just replaced mine with the Metra replacement. PW22 I think the model was. It wasn't that tough and it has been working now for two weeks without a problem. Just as noisy as the old one though. Do a search for PW22, you'll find the other posts.

I'd like to replace mine with a non power rubber type, about 12"-14". Even when I manually pull the antenna up I get bad reception. Is that because there is not an actual antenna in the end of the mast? The rubber one seems to work well on my suburban. Any ideas?

Stick with a power one. I would recommend:
