Can I stick a 3rd gen tranny in my SE????

Hey,

I bought a complete 1994 REW engine, tranny, wiring harness, ECU from this guy on the forum......I wont mention names. And the rear rotor housing is totaly f*cked. I'm selling what I can but I dont like the gear ratio in my SE. There's junkyard writing on it so I'm not sure if its from an SE at all. Well I got a 3rd gen 5 speed laying around and wondering if it will fit? Also if I was just curious......whats everyone think of a FC independent rear end in a FB? Whole lottta work huh?

Happy Holidays
Nate

P.S. Will the splines line up with my new SPEC stage 3 clutch. Well I guess I can find that out buy sliding my new clutch on to it...duh

Physically, the 3rd gen tranny will bolt to the -SE engine, but you would have to do some engineering to utilize it's pull-type clutch and so forth. Turbo and NA splines are different, too. Basically, it's not worth the trouble. What makes you think its ratios would be better than what you have? Have you considered a different ring and pinion ratio? The IRS swap would also be a real project.

Everyone wants an FC rear in their FB.So far no one Ive seen has done it.Honestly,it would be a lot of work to install a mediocre IRS.The FB solid axle can be made very responsive for much less work/$$.
A TII tranny is good for nearly 400lbs of torque,is readily availible, and less work to install than the FD box.

A shop has done the FC IRS into 1st gen but it's not worth the effort. A good trilink and panhard or proper watts link can make the 1st gen handle very good.
