Can I rewire the accessory 12V to the ignition?

Odd question, I know, but Is there such a way to wire the 12V outlet (cigarette lighter) to only be active when the ignition is on?

I like to leave my accessories plugged in when I'm not using the car, but presently, they continue to draw from the battery even after the car has been shut off.

Cig is just a fused pos and negative wire. Just rewire the positive to come off a 12V ignition on wire vs a 12V constant.

Or get a fuse block wired to a 12V ignition on for your accessories and put accessories to the fuse box

Wire in an extra cig lighter end (or a distribution block of some sort) with a relay that triggers with the key to ON.

Relay is your only proper option. You can either add a 12V accessory or modify the stock cig lighter, but you should use a relay to accomplish this.

I did it at the fuse box when my car was new, but it was the power windows that I changed so they would work on accessory. Drop the fuse box and move the wire that you want to move. Be sure to solder it and not crimp it.

+1

Relay is the proper way. I would find a switch 12v source and use it to activate the relay.
