can any other motors bolt into a first gen?
Apart from the piston-into-sven theme (I hate the idea), I'd like to advise people to discus by using serious arguments. If you say you can get a 5.0 for $200 and say that's cheaper then a rebuild 12A, you might be right as such. But you won't find a rebuild V8 for $200, will you? RX-7's are way cheaper in the US then overhere, yet we often find parts-cars with good engines for less then 250 euro, so why bother V8?
There's no reason to do so because the rotary is bad or something. I have seen 12A's with 200k miles on it, so who says there unreliable??? If you cannot afford a good used replacement engine, you can't afford a car at all.
If anybody ever told you a rotary engine was unreliable, just don't believe him: he simple never owned one!
So, just think twice about a piston swap. There's no real reason to. I'd like to know th total cost of a V8 swap anyway. I feel they might be underestimated a bit.

Heck I got my rotor running but she smokes a little mabye it will clear some. but, down the street there is a 5.0 mustang built to the gills that nealry had the back-end of it cut-off. he sell it to me for $250. And this mustang could beat just about another other car it saw.

It's just a car, have fun with it! Most of the time folks have more fun when the car moves on it's own. I think many of the converted cars have been around longer than they would have been had they not lent themselves to the swaps as easily as they do. I know mine would have been in the "yard" a while ago had I not bought it and done the conversion. I think it's funny the number of people that get their panties in a wad on this forum when conversions are mentioned. It seems a bit retarded to say a RX-7 without a rotary engine is no longer a RX-7! When I got mine there was no engine or trans, does that make it any less of a RX-7? No, it just wouldn't go on it's own. Now it has a 351w and it gets driven every day Is it less of a RX-7 than when it had no drivetrain? Of course not, it just is more fun than when it sat in the driveway and never moved! This is a "purist's" forum and I can't expect many of the members to share my views but I would think if given the choice of seeing one of their beloved cars hit the shreader or get a transplanted engine/transmission, they would pick the one that would allow the car to keep on going.p.s. I am obsessed with H.P. and I love smacking the *** of every Mustang, Camaro, and Civic that crosses my path.

OK check this out. I work with every piston engine made every day. The only thing I really have to say is dont expect alot from it easily, theres so many working parts, and they're every so god damn heavy too. I could see using a supra straight 6 or older inline 4's, they're basically the same design margain as the rotarty, but at a coss of more and uneven weight. From what i've seen of '85 GSL 302's video, the car looked like it handled not too good, and plus he's got what, $6000 into the motor after he was done? Yea the things can be done, but not cheap, not easily as you may think if you a DIY driveway mechanic.

i got my rx-7 when i was 16. i have had it for 6 years and i have fallen in love with it. at first i didn't realize exactly what i had and thought about doing a v8 swap. it just sounds cool to put a huge engine in such a small car. after a year or so i realized what i had and now i wouldn't even consider doing a v8 swap. it isn't so much because it wouldn't be an rx-7. it is because the rotory is such an awesome engine. it has so much potential. i think it is a shame for somone to change that about the rx-7. i would rather see ppl put a small block in a 280 z or something. abuot rotory engines being expensive, you just have to keep your eyes open. i just got an rx-7 for $300. it was rolled 4 times going about 100 mph. there is NOTHING left on the body, but the engine and transmition only have 300 miles on them. you can't beat that. just keep the car rotory for a while. try it. if you are anything like us, you might like it after a while. then...........you might actually love it!
hell if I could fit a ferrari engine under the hood...I would do it, but thats only cause it's a freaking ferrari. But stick with the rotary man ok. 3 moving parts compared to like 70 ok. Quite easier to deal with, plus everything is right there. It's not like you need to every now and then tune your valves, replace your lifters blah blah blah. Trust me on this one stick with yuor rotary. can't go wrong.

That's why inline 6 and V-12 motors are so smooth compared to inline 4s or V-8s.

I know a little more about piston motors and i nkow for a fact that I am not going to be close to hanging with even a L-82 from a stop or even on top-speed. I want to put a v-8 in a 7 to do this. mabye if I find one with a blown motor. The one i have seems to be in decent shape and since its older i want to keep it original as possible and mess with a different one.

lol....let's not start another foolish eccentric per revolution nonsense thread....you wanta V8 in your poor 7? Fine, but you're in the wrong tech board. They have an "alternative" engine Board elsewhere's for such heresy. The thread asked for other motors that can go into an RX-7 and then asked "with little mods"....the answer is there is none when it comes to boinger surgery...the 13B needs little mods, the 12A needs no mods and anything else gets heavy into fabrication and money...unless $2 G is just play money to yas...
