I seriously doubt whether a 200hp RX-7 wll get you into the 13 seconds.

Depending on how much weight has ben stripped out, the most likely performance range is 14.5 to 14.8 seconds. To get to sub 14 seconds needs 250-270 hp and good tires.

The real question is how to get to 270hp cheaply and reliably. A 12A will need so many modifications there will be a lose of its streetablity. A 13B offers more options, a TII could do it with some moderate modifications, but the optimal way would be an exCosmo 13B REW reverting back to a single turbo. A budget of $7,000 should be planned to include everythng necessary from the fuel pump to the tires.

that's what I'm doing but with a weber DCOE.
TRUE so very true... Its great to punch the gas and it lay you *** back in the seat big time

Nice blanket statement. My 1991 TII is a better build and better interior quality than my 1983 GSL. But hey, everyone has their opinions...

I see very big differences in the 84-85 from the early 79-83 ones. And this FC is just downright cheap, it remonds me of Geo plastic. Look at it funny and it breaks. Whats this plastic radiator ****? They got cheap no way around it, if the FD is the same drop of quality, I dont want one.

I think it lasted more than 40 miles.
Haha the 787B? they spent so much money on that car, thats wut made mazda broke and have to sell to ford. They dont tell u the specifics on the racecar, and ive yet to see a 12a peripheral port by a private owner that has lasted long or even a company not as big as mazda

Peripheral ports are reliable. It's just that the rev range requires carbon seals which tend to wear quicker than steals. With an occasional freshen up of the apex seals they can last a very long time.

Agreed. Just like any motor, it depends on who bult the engine, etc.

This car has over 200 passes at the 1/4 mile. Peripheral port 13B. Runs high 10's / low 11's consistently. The motor could go another year easily without needing a rebuild. Peripherals are more reliable than monster or "J" ports that go into the waterjacket.

By the way, the car is completely street legal, with a full interior. He drives it on the street several times a month.

Hey I got a 13B 6 port that I'm porting just to mess with it...I hate 6 ports.

I currently finished the streetporting on a sweet 12a it's a nice extended port (TODAY!). I'm buying the nitrous setup in a month, I'm racing next year on a road circuit with my 85 black GSL with that same engine I'm building, and I want to go turbo for drag on a GSL-SE but that's another story, it all depends on how my first project goes along and how much power the LT1 with supercharger that I'm building for one of my clients runs...if it gets over 500hp I will have to match it

I'm one of the ones doing the stuff I'm talking about...About dreaming it's all fun...

um..

i forgot the website but it was a site for a race shop. on theyr web site it showed a gsl-se with rebuilt motor and dellorto perfectly tuned. it ran 13.9 with street tires.

it is all about tuning. some ppl like to spend 300 bux on some rice rocket exhaust but id rather spend that money on a dyno and get my car tuned in perfectly. from the muffler ull prob get 5 horse power, more noise and more tickets. after spending time on the dyno ull probly get upto 10 to 15 more hp depending on the condition of the car. and still quite.
remember. elevation counts alot. some guys might say they only ran mid 14s with a bridge port but they may be going mid 13s at sea level. cant forget about the weather temp either. when i raced at palmdale durring a hot summer day, i ran mid 15s but after the sun went down it started to get a lil chilly. at night, i ran 15.1. palmdale is also higher elevation so the time u get is approximately half a second slower than at sea level. if i ran 15.1 then it means my car is actually around 14.6. have a gsl-se with dellorto setup. my tranny grinds and my clutch slips sometimes and my tires r almost bald so if i get a better tranny, a new clutch and some new tires i should be around 14 flat so going 13.9 with dellorto setup on a gsl-se seems believable.

driving skills counts alot too.

also...

also............... if ur car goes around mid 15s and 14s, u should stop worrying about speed and make ur car corner. get that car to corner and hit up some autocross or speedtrials. its alot more fun than going straight.

To be fair, the S5 interior parts, for the most part, are made a lot better. The S4 ones will crack if you just fart the wrong way.
