caliper help!!!
so i am rebuilding the rear caliper, i got it all apart, took the ebrake dust boot off, and pulled out the parking brake crank so i could replace the adjusting bolt assembly o-ring. cleaned it all up, put new seals on and now i can't get the parking brake crank to go through at all. i know that pressure is needed, but i can't get the adjusting bolt assembly low enough for it to even clear, much less with all the parts on. i know that there is a tool that can help, but how have the rest of u done this? any help would be great, and the sooner the better--thanx

I just did this last night. The factory manual has a good diagram of how everything fits together. To get the parking brake crank in, I had to use a c-clamp to compress the adjusting bolt and it's round spring washers. It takes a lot of compression and there isn't much room so it's not easy. You have to find something that's thin enough to fit on one side of the top of the adjusting bolt, yet large enough to be able to clamp it without it flying all over. I didn't take any pictures, and it's hard to describe. I found a thread that helped me a lot...I'll see if I can find it again.

Ya I had the same problem. I also used a c-clamp, but I ran a wood screw through one end on the clamp(the stationary end). That proved to apply enough pressue to the adjusting bolt to allow the rod to slide back over the key and into the other side. It was a bitch, but I got it and now they are installed on the car and it all works fine. This is the thread with the pictures I took.
