A/C Question

I have a '85 RX-7 with 12A engine and no power steering.

It has factory a/c, however this spring when I took it out of storage the compressor doesn't want to start up. I believe it could be an electrical problem, such as a relay of some sort that will engage the compressor when the interior button is pressed. I have checked the A/C 15amp fuse - checks out (switched it with another known good one for added insurance)

I was looking under the hood today and saw a black wire that runs into the area around the a/c compressor clutch...what does this wire do? When I traced it it wraps around the driver side brake line once and then connects up with a green wire with a black strip, the connection appears to be a fusable link, but I'm not sure. Is this supposed to have a current running through it, because I checked it with a circuit tester and there is nothing running through it...

I reall hope the refrigerant didn't leak out this winter, but I guess it's possible...except this time I won't be able to recharge it with R-12.

Any clue as to what is up?? The clutch itself won't engage. I dunno if the clutch won't engage if the refrigerant is too low, and I don't want to start messing with the compressor itself until I'm certain that is where the problem is...

the light on the dash lights up when I push A/C, but nothing else happens..

thanks for the help/advice...

R134a conversion is probably overdue. I converted back in 2001, and still have to charge it up every year or so. Living in Texas, A/C is not optional in the summer...
