Smile A/C bracket mystery hole

I removed the A/C from our 82 today and discovered a small hole behind the bracket. It had some oil around it but didn't seem to used at all. It is blocked off on the other side by a flat plate (as you can see in the pics). It didn't squirt oil when we turned the engine over. Now that the bracket is off should I worry about plugging it up?

(Yes the engine is filthy. We have a leaky oil cooler hose thats not fixed yet )

That is bad. I don't know what the hole is for, but please...

As soon as you fix the leak,
Degreaser and pressure cleaners are your friends.

that plug is an oil galley plug. all front housings have one.. if you look along the side of the housing you can follow it up to the top where there is another plug , unless you have a turbo 2 or 12a turbo ,then you have a banjo bolt for the turbo oil feed line .. nothing to worry about... but judging by the grease buildup on the motor i would guess you have a leaky o-ring!! notice the cleaner it gets the higher you go on the rotorhousing??its always the cleanest at the source of the oil leak...time for a rebuild!
