A/C Air Volume - New to site
I have a well maintained 79 RX7 that needs to push more air volume thru the vents. Compressor recently replaced & cools 50 degrees at vent - but not much force. I'm in St Louis so LOTS of A/C is a necessity.
Has anyone else had that problem and how did you overcome it ?
Are there any improvements or later model blower motors that will work ?
Thanks for your help.

All vents and ducts were confirmed clean when blower motor unit was recently out trying to diagnosis this problem. Everything confirmed clean, all levers working properly, no disconnected flaps, etc.
Put on a new blower motor, but had no net gain in air volume. Sheesh !!
Are there any other blower motors that will increase the speed of the birdcage - and fit with little or no hassle ?

I don't see how everyones isn't pushing hard, if I turn mine on I can't see when I'm driving down the road because it's so strong and blowing at my head.

Per the British Victoria catalog, '79 & 80 blower motors have the same part number.
'81 thru 85 have the identical part number, only with an alpha suffix (and they cost twice as much as the 79 & 80 blower motor !!).
Is an '81-85 blower motor an easy replacement for the blower motor in my 79 ?
Has anyone tried replacing a '79 blower shroud, etc with '81 thru '85 components ??

I, too, was hoping for more here.
After a 134a conversion mine works well up to about 85 degrees outside temperature. In today's 95F plus 90% humidity it struggles. Better than nothing but not real cold. Rather odd behavior. With a cloud or a tree for some shade it gains a lot of ground, and quick. But, open the door or get in full sun and it can't recover or keep the car cool. The air coming out is cool and after 30 minutes or so it will start to get the upper hand and start to make things comfortable. But, 30 minutes is a long time and at idle it also loses ground.
I don't think there's anything wrong with the blower even though it can't push real hard. I was hoping someone might have a blower solution because it could make things better. Then again I recall from my first 7 it wasn't like a Caddy when it came to A/C.

Reply to jays83gsl.............no vibration when turned on high.
Has 'anyone out there' tried to install 81-85 blower components into a '79 ??
Is the blower motor/squirrel cage an identical swap from '79 to later 1st gen ?
signed,
Sweaty in St Louis !!

Okay, if I remember correctly, if you swap the ENTIRE ASSEMBLY together, ANY blower motor is swappable.
Make sure that your squirrel cage faces the same way as the one you took off, as the direction of the fins can change the amount of air you're getting drastically.

Thanks jays83gsl - I'll check to make sure that some idiot didn't already make that mistake when I recently had assembly torn apart and put back together again.
Now wouldn't THAT be somethun !!
Any other ideas / input from other members is also appreciated.

I am getting in on this a little late but one thing you want to check is to make sure the jumper wire on the blower housing is in place, it is there to up the voltage to the blower when there is a/c installed to compensate for the extra restriction of the evaporator core. The bummer is that you have to remove the blower housing to check it. I figured this out recently dealing with the same problem you are having with poor blower output, The biggest part of my problem was an air leak where the evaporator housing connected to the heater core housing, I was losing a large amount of air at the junction. I corrected this leak and it fixed the problem, It blows hard now!!

Any other A/C blower ideas out there for an original 79?
I appreciate the prior responses and curious if anyone may have any other ideas / upgrades / options.
It's 99 degrees in St Louis today with humidity so thick that you just stand outside and it's like somebody threw a bucket of water at ya !
Thanks

Airflow is my life
Yea look for leaks/losses. Oh yea and the evap connections suck on these cars. The metal band straps dont hold/seal well when the foam seal turns to dust. My other suggestion would be to check the evap coil. It may be plugged with dirt and not allowing enough air to pass thru it. My 85 was like that and I attempted to wash it with cleaner and a water hose. Some improvement, but Im still gonna have to pull it someday and do a real cleaning on it.
